Elden Ring has a large weapon pool, but the useful question is not “which weapon is best?” It is “which weapon fits my stats, preferred moveset and the encounters I am preparing for?”
Compare weapon families first
Reach, speed, stamina use and attack pattern can matter as much as raw damage. Start with a weapon family that feels comfortable, then compare individual options inside that family.
Build compatibility
Check attribute requirements and scaling before investing heavily. A weapon that technically works may still be inefficient if it asks your build to spread points across stats you do not otherwise need.
Weapon skills
Skills can change how a weapon handles groups, range, stagger or burst windows. Treat the skill as part of the weapon's identity rather than judging only normal attacks.
Upgrade level matters
Before abandoning a weapon because damage feels low, compare its upgrade level with the stage of the game. Upgrade progression can matter more than switching to a different weapon with similar scaling.
Use boss pages to refine the choice
Some encounters reward reach, fast punish windows or safer ranged pressure. Use boss-specific problems to decide whether the weapon needs to change—or whether your current setup only needs better timing.
