Xbox confirms an origin-story campaign starring Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, plus co-op, Horde Siege and competitive Versus.
Campaign
The campaign can be played solo. It takes place fourteen years before the original Gears of War and focuses on Emergence Day.
Campaign co-op
Xbox lists two-player split-screen co-op on console and online campaign co-op for up to four players.
Horde Siege
Horde Siege is an evolved PvE take on the series' wave-survival formula. The August open beta included the mode, giving the studio a final round of player feedback before launch.
Versus PvP
Versus provides competitive multiplayer. Xbox's current game page describes refined PvP alongside the campaign and Horde Siege.
Launch timing
Premium Edition Early Access begins October 1, 2026, and the full release follows on October 6.
