Baldur's Gate 3 Wizard Build

A spellcasting build-planning hub for broad spell access, control and ranged utility.

Wizard planning is mainly about choosing a clear spellcasting role. A character with a huge spellbook is not automatically effective if prepared spells, feats and party composition do not support the same job.

Choose the Wizard's job

  • Area damage
  • Battlefield control
  • Single-target spell pressure
  • Utility and exploration
  • Defensive support

Prepare for the encounter

Wizard flexibility is valuable because spells can be changed to answer different problems. Use that flexibility deliberately: prepare control for crowded fights, damage when the party lacks it, or utility when exploration is the priority.

Do not neglect survivability

High spell access does not help if the Wizard is constantly downed. Positioning, defensive spells and party protection are part of the build, not separate from it.

Single-class versus multiclass

Staying Wizard preserves deeper spell progression and class features. Multiclassing can add utility, but the level-12 cap means every dip has a real cost.

Party fit

Check whether the group already has control, healing, frontline pressure and skill utility. The Wizard should solve missing problems rather than duplicate everything another caster already covers.
