Initiative decides turn order at the start of combat. Acting earlier can let a party remove threats, establish control or move into safe positions before enemies execute their plan.
Dexterity matters
Dexterity commonly contributes to initiative, so many builds gain turn-order value from a stat they may already want for attacks, defense or skills.
Opening-round jobs
- Remove a dangerous target.
- Apply control before enemies spread out.
- Move a frontline character into a blocking position.
- Set up buffs or terrain before damage begins.
Party order matters too
Think about which party member benefits most from acting early. A controller or burst-damage character may gain more from initiative than a character whose job is mostly reactive support.
Do not build only for initiative
Turn order is valuable, but it should support the main build rather than replace it. Balance initiative against damage, survivability and spellcasting priorities.
