Fighter is a flexible martial base for players who want reliable weapon damage, strong frontline presence and a relatively clear combat role. Build planning gets easier once you decide what the Fighter is supposed to do for the party.
Choose the role first
- Frontline durability
- Single-target weapon damage
- Battlefield control
- Ranged martial pressure
- Multiclass foundation
Weapon and armor direction
Pick a weapon style that matches the intended role before choosing feats. A heavy melee setup, shield-oriented frontline and ranged Fighter all value different bonuses.
Feat planning
Use feats to reinforce the build's actual job rather than collecting unrelated effects. Damage, durability, mobility and concentration support should be chosen based on how the character is used in the party.
Single-class versus multiclass
Fighter can work very well as a complete single-class character, but it can also contribute useful features to multiclass builds. If you split levels, check what Fighter features you are giving up at higher levels.
Party fit
Use the Party Role Planner to make sure the rest of the group still covers healing, utility, control and ranged pressure rather than asking the Fighter to solve every problem.
