Baldur's Gate 3 Barbarian Build

Plan a durable melee role first, then choose subclass, feats and equipment around that job.

Barbarian is a natural frontline class built around aggressive melee pressure and Rage. The useful build question is whether the character should maximize damage, durability or a balance between the two.

Choose the frontline job

  • Hold dangerous enemies in melee.
  • Deal reliable weapon damage.
  • Create space for fragile party members.
  • Use mobility to reach priority targets.

Rage planning

Rage is the center of the class identity, so choose encounters and equipment around staying effective while it is active rather than treating it as an occasional bonus.

Feat planning

Pick feats that reinforce the same melee role: damage, durability, mobility or weapon use. Avoid unrelated utility that another party member already covers better.

Single-class versus multiclass

Barbarian works cleanly as a single-class frontline, but multiclassing can add specific features. Test the split against the level-12 cap before committing.

Party fit

Pair a Barbarian with characters that can add ranged pressure, control or support. The Party Role Planner helps check whether the group has become too melee-heavy.
